The European Shorthair is a great family pet, playfulness and cheerfulness which blend harmoniously with serenity and obedience. Typically, these cats do not cause any problems in the upbringing, and their behavior is a model for other Pets.

Appearance

The European Shorthair is a cat of medium size, whose weight can reach 8 kg. the European Shorthair is the elongated, strong torso, good muscularity, strong legs of medium length. The neck is strong, the head is quite wide, with rounded contours and developed cheeks, especially in males, the transition from forehead to muzzle smooth.

Eyes large, round, wide and slightly sloping. Eye color harmonizes with coat color. Ears of medium size, with rounded tips; the tips may be tufts of hair. The tail is of medium length, quite thick and gradually tapering towards the tip.

The coat is short, thick and dense, short undercoat. Allowed all colors except colorpoint and purple.

The European Shorthair is very affectionate and outgoing, but it never will be a busy master, and will always find something to do.

This breed is suitable for families with children and Pets, as good-natured “Europeans” easily turns with all the friendship. She bonds strongly to its owner and responds with gratitude for attention and care.

But do not take European Shorthair for divan pet. This is a real hunter, which will be very grateful for the opportunity to walk around the fenced area.

Health

European Shorthair’s fairly good health and average life expectancy are 15 years.

Care

The breed is known for its ruggedness. Dense coat pet enough to brush just 1 time a week. In General, care of the “Europeans” standard.

History

The European Shorthair is essentially a mixed breed cat with a good pedigree and, therefore, innate qualities of character. Breeders set a goal to create a traditional breed with a wide range of colors, and they succeeded by crossing British and American Shorthair cats.

The breed’s native country is continental Europe. The first standard was published in 1925. In 1982 the breed was recognized by FIFe (until then it was considered a variation of the British Shorthair).
